The ideal candidate will have:

  • University qualifications in Metallurgy, Applied Physics, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering fields
  • Have completed or graduated from a recognized institution in 2015 or later
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
  • Be willing to take instructions, learn, and respond with urgency
  • Be able to perform at peak capacity in high pressure situations and be totally committed to safety at all times
  • Computer skills and experience in MS Word, Excel, etc. and good organizational skills
  • Previous experience in Air Separation Units (ASU) or Gas Plant is an advantage but not mandatory

Key Responsibilities:

  • Confer with Oxygen Specialist/Mill Foreman to identify work situations requiring preventative or remedial training for trainee operators
  • Confer with Oxygen Plant Specialist/Mill Foreman and Metallurgists to plan day to day production
  • Ensures all incidents and accidents are reported immediately
  • Conduct general safety inspection in the area of responsibility, Identify the risks in the work area and using the correct controls to mitigate or eliminate the risks
  • Ensure that adequate reagents are mixed and available in the area of work
  • Work with Oxygen Specialist and Mill Foreman to coordinate equipment isolation, JSAs and permit issuing for plant shutdowns
  • Troubleshooting, reporting of faults and taking the necessary remedial and corrective action in the area of responsibility and is capable of training trainee operators on all areas of the operation
  • Participate in the commissioning of new plant and new equipment
  • Adhering to environmental procedures and compliance in ensuring good housekeeping, resource conservation, spill prevention and the appropriate disposal of wastes
  • Responsible for safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all equipment at the area of responsibility; ensures all environment and safety standards and policies are being met and carried out in accordance with Barrick policies.
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & procedures. 

Mobilization Requirement 

  • This position is open to PNG Citizens Only 
  • Rotation is FIFO, 28 days on and 14 days off
  • Must have an up to date Police clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
