New Porgera Limited (NPL) has an immediate position vacancy for a Technician role within the IT & Communication Department. Reporting to the Specialist, Senior – IT and Communications, the incumbent will be responsible to diagnose and correct software and hardware faults in computers, photocopiers, fax, scanner, and other ITC equipment. The incumbent will also carry out any other duties as directed by Superiors.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Qualification to be a Diploma in IT and/or Communication with more than 3 years proven experience as an IT Technician in a similar role.
  • Experienced with the repair and maintenance of computers hardware and software.
  • Some experience with hardware and software repair of computer accessories including photocopiers, printers, plotters, scanners.
  • Basic-to-Intermediate understanding of IT networking to a troubleshooting and installation level.
  • Able to run network and communication cables.
  • Ability to configure and support networked printing and scanning systems.
  • Software literate especially in Microsoft applications and Operating Systems.
  • Good communication & technical skills
  • Capable of working safely and promoting a safe working environment.
  • Good knowledge of IT systems, networks, and network connected technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently when need.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and correct faults in computers and office equipment in an efficient, timely manner.
  • Provide technical support for IT systems and communication networks.
  • Install, configure, and maintain hardware and software.
  • Carries out tasks as directed by superiors.
  • Provide Help Desk support for ITC equipment users.
  • Continue to update knowledge by learning about new equipment.
  • Actively participate in formal and on-the-job training.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a professional manner with good customer relations.
  • Documentation of daily tasks performed.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operation of IT and Communication systems.
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

Mobilization Requirement 

  • All Applicants must have an up-to-date police clearance Certificate, Acquired within the last 6 months.
  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol test.
  • The roster pattern is 5 days’ work and 2 days off.
  • Be a local Porgeran and be available to start quickly.
