TECHNICIAN – INSTRUMENTATION AND CONTROL

Reporting to the Supervisor – Instrumentation and Control, the role will be responsible for diagnosing instrumentation/process faults, repair and maintenance of plant instrumentation.

The ideal candidate must;

  • Recognized trade certificate in Instrumentation with a restricted electrical license 
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years trade experience in the mining and or petrochemical industry
  • Ability to read and interpret documentation relating to safety, OEM manuals, loop drawings, P&ID’s, electrical schematics and instrumentation specifications
  • A very good understanding of electrical, electronic, instrument, pneumatic and hydraulic symbols and terminology
  • Computer literate with DCS, PLC and SCADA experience 
  • Good communication and technical skills with sound planning and organizational skills
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems / workflow management systems (e.g. Oracle, JDE, SAP, etc.) 
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with PJV Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Diagnose and correct faults associated to Process Plant Instrumentation
  • Understand the process and role of the equipment in the process
  • Understand the hazards associated with plants and be aware of the procedures to minimize the risk of injury or asset damage (i.e. oxygen compatibilities, chemical or thermal hazards etc.)
  • Understand the permissive interlocks and be able to ascertain the existence of interlocks using the PLC,DCS and SCADA systems
  • Liaise with control room operators to ascertain actual problems and root causes
  • Continue to update knowledge by consistent review of equipment manuals
  • Actively participate in on the job training of apprentices and T/A’s
  • Ensure all work is carried out in a proper manner within government regulations & company policy
  • Locate, read and understand relevant technical drawings and manuals
  • Understand the isolations required to safely and efficiently conduct the task at hand
  • Use Oracle or related Integrated management systems to be able to find and order parts from warehouse using correct cost codes
  • Documentation of daily tasks performed
  • Examines components to detect imperfections and assesses their re-usability
  • Maintain a high level of health and safety awareness and comply with the PJV Occupational Health and Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures.

Mobilization Requirement 

  • This position is open to PNG Citizens Only 
  • Rotation is FIFO, 21 days on and 14 days off
  • Must Have an up to date Police clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months)
