Superintendent Procurement – Barrick Gold – Porgera Operations

Role Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Superintendent Procurement to join our team at the Porgera operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the procurement team to ensure timely conversion of purchase orders, adherence to procurement policies and standards, and continuous improvement of performance metrics. Additionally, this role will oversee the effective population and consolidation of purchase orders, engage with the logistics team to expedite orders when necessary, and identify opportunities for process simplification and automation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the procurement team to convert purchase orders within the SLA and according to procurement policies and standards.
  • Deliver weekly/monthly KPI metrics on performance and continuously improve on metrics.
  • Expedite orders when necessary by engaging the logistics team and liaising with end users.
  • Ensure effective population and consolidation of purchase orders to simplify the procure-to-pay (P2P) process.
  • Identify key initiatives to simplify and automate PO issuance and process.
  • Manage the effectiveness and efficiency of senior supervisors, supervisors, and purchasing officers.
  • Engage outsource partners to assist in capacity requirements and assist in metric development.
  • Assist in spend analysis to identify new contracting opportunities and potential savings opportunities.
  • Assist with the investigation and resolution of all invoice mismatches associated with orders.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in procurement and logistics management within the mining or heavy industry sector.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
  • Proven track record of delivering KPI metrics and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • Sound knowledge of procurement processes, policies, and standards.
  • Experience in spend analysis and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy.
