Summary

The Steel Fixer plays a crucial role in construction projects by preparing and installing reinforcing steel bars (rebar) and mesh to reinforce concrete structures, ensuring they meet structural and safety requirements. They read and interpret construction plans, cut and bend steel bars, and securely tie them together using various techniques. Steel Fixers work in collaboration with other construction professionals to create sturdy and durable concrete structures.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and drawings to determine rebar placement and layout.
  • Measure, cut, and bend steel bars to the required specifications using tools such as rebar cutters and benders.
  • Securely tie together rebar pieces using wire, bar-tying tools, or metal clips to create reinforcing cages.
  • Set up and position rebar and mesh within concrete forms before pouring concrete.
  • Ensure proper alignment, spacing, and elevation of rebar according to project specifications.
  • Operate machinery and equipment such as cranes, hoists, and forklifts to transport and position materials.
  • Inspect and repair damaged or improperly installed rebar.
  • Follow safety guidelines and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Collaborate with other construction team members, including concrete finishers and carpenters, to complete projects efficiently.

Job Requirements

  • Proven work experience as a Steel Fixer in the construction industry.
  • Familiarity with construction plans, blueprints, and drawings.
  • Proficiency in using rebar cutting and bending tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in rebar installation.
  • Physical stamina and strength to handle heavy materials and work in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and willingness to adhere to them.
