About the Role

Our Newmont Lihir Gold mine operation is now recruiting for an experienced, driven and self-motivated Senior Specialist – Marine Maintenance to join the supportive Mining Fleet Maintenance team where your contributions are valued.

This role will be working a 22:20 roster and is offered on a 2-year Fixed Term-Full time basis.

You will oversee the Marine Maintenance section in the delivery of maintenance activities and services for the Barge, Small Boat and De-watering fleets to ensure both production and maintenance are able to meet cost, production and performance targets.

To be successful in this role, you will have strong mechanical and electrical technical experience and knowledge in the marine industry.

Your key accountabilities include:

  • Manage the Marine Maintenance assets with the requisite level of reliability and performance at the lowest level of sustainable cost.
  • Oversee the maintenance activities of the Marine Fleet by providing technical advice and direction to the supervisors and crews.
  • Implement daily maintenance activities and monitoring the outcome of maintenance activities and services.
  • Manage the life cycle of all Marine Maintenance assets and equipment utilised in the production of gold.
  • Ensure Marine Maintenance assets are at an agreed level of reliability and availability to ensure mining production is met.
  • Develop and implement appropriate systems and strategies.
  • Provide technical advice for existing plant and development projects.
  • Participate in all section activities, safety meetings, shift handover communications, toolbox meetings and any other activities as required.
  • Participate and provide coaching and mentoring to Area Supervisors in the development and execution of weekly schedules.
  • Manage the budget and forecast deliveries as requires and reporting of compliance.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement in the section by encouraging and providing input on processes.
  • Contribute to the management of Health and Safety related to Marine Maintenance.
  • Actively promote continuous improvement in safety performance throughout the workforce.
  • Maintaining vessel statutory compliance with National Maritime Safety Authority
  • Effectively manage the de-watering pump fleet routine maintenance activities and continuous improvement projects.

Essential criteria

  • Extensive experience in similar roles such as a Marine Engineer Driver, Marine Engineer or Marine Technician within the marine, mining and defence (navy) industries.
  • Proven experience in a Senior Maintenance Supervisor or Supervisor role.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical experience and knowledge in the marine industry.
  • Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience in developing, coaching and training team members.
  • Relevant mechanical or electrical Trade Certificate (Cert III and above).
  • Experience in SAP and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building and training.

Desirable criteria

  • Currently hold an Marine Engine Driver ticket.
  • Vocational qualifications in Engineering and Frontline Management or S123
  • Previous experience working with National Maritime Safety Authority requirements.
  • Previous Expatriate experience working in a remote location.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or relevant discipline.

The Requirements

  • Must be open to FIFO in PNG.
  • Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check.
