Senior Metallurgist – Processing – Barrick Gold’s NPL Operations

Are you a seasoned metallurgical professional with a knack for leadership and innovation in gold processing operations? Barrick Gold’s Porgera JV operations are seeking a driven Senior Metallurgist to drive our metallurgical team and make an impact on a complex refractory gold operation utilising pressure oxidation technology

Role Overview:

As the Senior Metallurgist, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the metallurgical systems, ensuring their efficient application and continuous improvement. This position involves providing strategic guidance to the team, fostering a culture of innovation, and upholding the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse and improve metallurgical processes to maximise gold recovery and minimize costs.
  • Provide technical guidance to the processing team to achieve gold production targets, ensuring best practice standards are met.
  • Collect, interpret, and report on metallurgical data to inform decision-making and improve operational performance.
  • Support the management of the metallurgical accounting system to ensure accurate and timely reporting of data.
  • Identify and resolve issues in the processing plant, including equipment failure, process inefficiencies, and product quality concerns.
  • Challenge operational norms to drive continuous improvement and optimize plant performance.
  • Support major improvement projects using effective project management methodologies.
  • Ensure strict compliance with safety protocols and occupational health policies.
  • Support the development of the team’s capabilities and maintain up-to-date job procedures within the department.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Extensive mineral processing experience in a senior position.
  • Ideally, you will have comprehensive knowledge of gold extraction, recovery technology, and equipment. Refractory gold treatment, ideally experienced in pressure oxidation.
  • Experience includes: Comminution (Crushing, Grinding, Gravity Circuit), Flotation, CIL/CIP, Autoclaves and Planning (Met accounting & Reagent consumption)
  • Successful implementation of continuous improvement strategies.
  • Excellent communication, report writing, with good leadership skills.
