We are currently seeking a Rubber Liner to join our team on a permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor.

The Rubber Liner is responsible fulfilling the duties of belt splicing and rubber lining as outlined below while ensuring health, safety, environmental, community relations and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value

The opportunity

Technical accountabilities

  • Ensuring own health and safety as well as that of all other workers, identifying and maintaining safe work practices and completing all required safety training
  • Checking installations of new plant equipment and remedial works on conveyor systems and rubber lining
  • Carries out lagging of and repairs conveyor pulleys involving stripping and painting pulleys, applying appropriate lagging using appropriate adhesive and solvents.
  • Apply rubber linings to pipes, spools, launders, agitator blades, chutes tanks, valves, pipes, hoppers and similar articles.
  • Recognises and identifies imperfections and problem areas on rubber lining projects, making recommendations, and carrying out repairs mitigate the risk of issues.
  • Applies technical skill end expert judgement to a high standard, ensuring the delivery of quality customer outcomes.
  • Undertake all aspects of the preparation, installation, maintenance and repair of rubber lining projects, including preparation of surfaces, selection and application of materials according to work instructions and in alignment with standard procedures and practices, including the completion of all relevant documentation.
  • Ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained within personal work area.
  • Ensuring prompt actions are taken and closing out of safety issues affecting the workplace.
  • Ensuring communication and reporting of mechanical activities, breakdowns and delays to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Undertaking rubber lining and belt splicing tasks as required.

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Trade qualification Cert 2 minimum (skilled trade test competent) Cert 3 preferred
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in maintaining conveyors
  • Basic fitting knowledge
  • Trade background – Rubber lining, conveyor belt splicing and repairs
  • Drivers Licence
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures
  • Familiar with QA/QC processes in conveyor belt replacement and repairs
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to effectively manage time
  • A continuous improvement approach to all tasks.
  • Developing initiative and problem-solving skills
  • Field experience
  • Certificate 3 rubber specialist
  • EWP Licence
  • Dogging Certificate
