Role Description

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee and manage the engineering aspects of a major Fabrication Facility construction project in Papua New Guinea. The successful candidate will have a strong background in multidisciplinary industrial engineering, with a specific focus on geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering. This role requires excellent leadership, strategic planning, and stakeholder management skills to ensure the project is completed safely, on time, and within budget.

Job Responsibilities

  • Project Leadership: Provide strategic direction and oversight for all engineering activities related to the design and construction of the fabrication facility.
  • Multidisciplinary Coordination: Coordinate and integrate various engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive and efficient project execution.
  • Team Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a team of discipline engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as the primary liaison between the client, EPC contractor, and other key stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and collaboration throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Engineering Verification: Oversee and ensure thorough engineering verification processes, maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all engineering activities comply with local and international codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential project risks and develop effective mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project delivery.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain robust quality control processes to ensure all deliverables meet or exceed established standards and client expectations.
  • Safety Management: Promote and enforce a strong safety culture, ensuring all engineering practices adhere to occupational health and safety regulations.
  • Innovation and Continuous Improvement: Advocate for and implement innovative engineering solutions and best practices to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present regular progress reports to senior management and stakeholders, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and action plans.

The successful candidate must have –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or higher is advantageous.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive engineering experience in large-scale industrial construction projects, with substantial exposure to geotechnical, civil, and structural engineering disciplines.
  • Membership with the Institute of Engineers PNG is required. Additional professional certifications such as Professional Engineer (PE) status are highly desirable.
  • Proven experience in leading and managing multidisciplinary engineering teams in complex project environments.
  • Strong ability to effectively engage and manage relationships with various stakeholders, including EPC contractors, clients, and regulatory bodies.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, practices, and tools, including proficiency with relevant engineering and project management software.
  • In-depth understanding of local and international engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing effective risk management and quality assurance processes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving project challenges.
  • Experience working in diverse and challenging environments, with prior experience in Papua New Guinea or similar regions being highly advantageous.
  • Safety Orientation: Deep commitment to maintaining and promoting high safety standards in all engineering activities.
  • Track record of incorporating innovative solutions and continuous improvement methodologies in engineering projects.
