This role is targeted towards -mid career communication or public relations professional who is self-starter, with a minimum of three years’ experience, looking to build on their career in a challenging environment. Reporting to the Communications and Media Manager, the Senior Communications and Media Advisor is responsible for tactical support relating to the design and implementation of communications strategies, systems and action plans to enable Barrick Papua New Guinea mine operations to respond to high priority engagement issues and communicate effectively and consistently with internal and external stakeholders.

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Degree qualifications in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism.
  • Demonstrable experience in:

– Designing creative and engaging internal and external communication campaigns

– Produce high quality content for both internal and external communication channels (social media, releases, website, events and others). 

  • Minimum of 3 years continuous work experience in a Communications or Public Relations role.
  • Advanced creative writing skills.
  • Advanced Adobe Creative Cloud – Adobe Indesign, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Strong desire and ability to mentor and coach junior members of the team.
  • Hold a PNG driver’s license.
  • Be comfortable working in a remote location on a fly in/fly out roster.

Key Responsibilities but are not limited to the following:

  • Implement NPL Communications Strategy, aligned with the Life of Mine Plan. 
  • Provide communication guidance to internal and external stakeholders that impact key stakeholders. 
  • Effectively engage with various stakeholders across the business to proactively support mine-site departments and functions. 
  • Provide media relations support in accordance with Barrick Group objectives and standards. 
  • Assist the Communications Manager with implementation of management of change initiatives and other business improvement projects. 
  • Assist with managing and coordinating all content and publications
  • Support engagement with media and relevant stakeholders 
  • Maintain a high level of health, environment and safety awareness and comply with the NPL Occupational Health & Safety Policy and all health and safety rules and procedures

Mobilization Requirement 

  • This position is open to PNG Citizens Only
  • Rotation of 21 days on and 14 days off  
  • Must successfully pass a pre-employment medical including drug and alcohol screening. (This will be arranged only for successful candidates who progress after the interview stage). 
  • Must Have an up-to-date Police Clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months) 
  • Possess a PNG valid driver‘s license.
