Job Description

New Porgera Limited is seeking a highly motivated and skilled professional to join our team as an Officer – Purchasing in the Supply Department. The Purchasing Officer applies and monitors systems and processes for the sourcing, ordering and delivery of goods and supplies required by the mine site, ensuring the effective delivery of all aspects of the procurement process. 

The ideal candidate must have:

  • Recognized tertiary qualifications in purchasing or procurement are desirable 
  • Significant experience in purchasing roles involving international freight movement, including several years in leadership roles 
  • Broad knowledge of PNG and international suppliers purchasing and delivery practices 
  • Knowledge of PNG legislation relating to Customs for the import and export of materials
  • Purchasing and sourcing experience
  • General knowledge of the movement of dangerous goods by all modes of transport
  • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
  • Experience in the use of computerised materials management and inventory systems 
  • Good computer skills with the ability to use integrated management systems, word processing presentation and spreadsheet applications
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels
  • Able to read and write English at an Upper Secondary School standard
  • Maintain a high level of health, safety and environmental awareness and comply with all relevant PJV policies & procedures. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Processing and management of purchase orders in a timely manner
  • Identifying appropriate suppliers 
  • Managing the Request for Quote (RFQ) process to receive competitive prices, negotiation of cost and application of PJV approved Terms and Conditions 
  • Identify priorities and urgent requirements and expedite orders to the established points of delivery
  • Liaison with vendors and expediters to ensure timely and smooth end to end transportation to site
  • Regular liaison with end users to ensure effective communication and service delivery
  • Maintain appropriate records demonstrating compliance with site requirements
  • Providing required reporting to supervisor and manager to meet the agreed service levels
  • Assist the Supervisor with implementation of change management initiatives and other business improvement projects
  • Support team members and Superintendents to complete duties as needed including any ad-hoc project duties and responsibilities as maybe assigned by Management
