Role Overview:

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Metallurgist to join our team within the Porgera process operation. Reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, this role will be pivotal in applying and monitoring metallurgical systems to optimize plant performance, providing technical guidance, and mentoring team members. Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Operations team in the effective recommissioning of the process plant and start-up operations.
  • Ensure safe operation of the processing plant by controlling and optimizing various plant components, including Crushing, Grinding, Floatation, Acid Pressure Oxidation, Oxygen Plants, Lime Kilns, Tailings Detoxification, and leach/CIP circuits.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to improve the knowledge and capability of Metallurgy and Operation teams.
  • Develop and execute processing plant projects using Project Management Systems, ensuring discipline and leadership in project execution.
  • Collect and analyze data to assess performance statistics, efficiency, and recommend improvements.
  • Monitor metallurgical processes and make adjustments to process controls to enhance plant performance.
  • Maintain accurate metallurgical accounting reporting and downtime review.
  • Mentor less experienced members of the Metallurgy Team.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to plan and forecast production targets based on business requirements.
  • Lead a team safely and improve safety awareness through visible leadership.
  • Uphold a high level of health, safety, and environmental awareness, following all related rules and procedures.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Metallurgical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Membership of AusIMM, SME, and/or IEPNG.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in metallurgical roles within mineral processing plants.
  • Knowledge of gold extraction and recovery technology and equipment.
  • Ability to coach and mentor team members for professional development.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation affecting safety in the mining industry in PNG.
  • Experience in project management, change management, and business improvement systems.
  • Proficiency in Metallurgical Accounting and Modelling.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide practical solutions.
  • Experience in cost management, budgeting, and procurement of equipment and materials.
  • Knowledge of hazardous chemical storage and first aid certification.

Mobilization Requirement:

  • This position is open to PNG Citizens only.
  • FIFO rotation: 28 days on and 14 days off.
  • Must have an up-to-date Police clearance Certificate (acquired within the last 6 months).
