About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for a Plant Operator CPF to join Santos’ Production Team.

Reporting to the Production Team Lead, this role is responsible for providing operational support for the Assets’ oil fields and production facilities.

This will be performed in a safe, efficient and environmentally sound manner.

The role will be part of a team that operates the wells, production facilities and ancillary utility facilities, such as power generation. The role will also assist to train apprentices and roustabouts on the job.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Contribute to the safe reliable operation of production facilities and oil fields in all situations, e.g. start up, shutdown, major disruptions and emergencies
  • Contribute in all shift activities/programmes, including participating in safety lead indicators, e.g. STOP and HAZID programs, JHA & PTW validations and incident reporting and investigation reviews.
  • Assist with improving plant reliability by adopting sound operating practices, including minor adjustments, monitoring equipment performance and condition and generation of Maintenance notifications to SAP System.
  • Undertakes core production duties and provide on the job training for apprentices and supervise equipment operators as required.
  • Maintain crude and gas specifications by contributing to stable plant operation and the undertaking of sampling and testing.
  • Interfaces and engages with Process, Maintenance, Project and other personnel to ensure that all activities are undertaken in a safe and appropriate manner by effectively utilising OSL Procedures & safe work practices in accordance with OSL’s Safety Management System.
  • Assist in managing chemical inventories and usages effectively to minimise cost.
  • Maintain effective communication within Process Facilities and Fields, e.g. liaison with other service groups and departments such as Maintenance, Projects, Drilling and contractors.
  • Assist, or cover, field operators as required in the operations of wells.
  • Undertakes core duties and provides on the job training for apprentices and supervise roustabouts

This is a rotational role is based in Kutubu, Southern Highlands Province, 28days on / 28days off.

About you

Possessing a PNG NATTB accredited Process Technician Trade Qualification, and ideally a PNG driver’s License for field runs, the successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the following essential skills and experience:

  • Significant experience in an operations role at a site level
  • Understanding of production facilities, safety procedures, permit procedures and area safety equipment’s
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Detailed knowledge of oil and gas, chemical or metallurgical processes
  • Detailed knowledge of personal safety and safety tools (Step Back, JHA, etc)
  • Knowledge of process safety risks and their management practices
  • Good analytical, numeracy and problem-solving skills

Any knowledge of the following will be looked upon favourably:

  • A knowledge of the PTW systems and processes
