We are currently seeking to recruit a Graduate Metallurgist for our Processing – Metallurgy Department. Reporting to the Senior Plant Metallurgist, the successful applicant will mainly be responsible for optimising plant parameters to achieve plant production targets, while ensuring health, safety, environmental and community relation standards are set and maintained.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • In conjunction with the Plant Metallurgist maintain metallurgical procedures, standards and policies
  • In conjunction with the Plant Metallurgist maintain tracking systems for agreed KPIs to allow accurate analysis of the metallurgical performance of the plant leading to timely decision making to maintain performance at or above budget
  • In conjunction with the Plant Metallurgist maintain the metallurgical accounting system for the production of daily, weekly, monthly and annual metallurgical reporting
  • Assist Plant Metallurgist to gather and evaluate plant and test work data. Use the data to identify areas for improvement in throughput, cost savings or metal recovery
  • Take responsibility of metallurgical database and ensure data input is accurate, explain deviations from normal trend and report to Plant Metallurgist for corrective actions
  • Train metallurgical assistants and supervise daily sample preparations and ensure samples are submitted on time
  • Attend regular meetings with production and maintenance personnel to review equipment and operational performance and record minutes of meetings when tasked to do so
  • Support the cost effective achievement of monthly and annual production targets
  • Assist Plant Metallurgist to plan and execute test work to monitor and improve plant performance
  • Encourage employees to investigate and trial new ideas, methods and technology, to ensure continuous improvement throughout the area of influence
  • Assist Plant Metallurgist to coordinate the implementation of management initiatives in the Plant Processing area and ensure appropriate alignment with strategy and the requirements of other departments

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Bachelor in Mineral Processing
  • Be computer literate in the use of MS Word, Excel & Power Point Presentation
  • Have high attention to detail and be focused on task completion
  • Able to work unsupervised and with limited direction
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Well-developed written and oral communications skills
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Be able to lead and motivate others
  • Able to work effectively within a multi – cultural workforce
  • Sound knowledge of site safety and environment procedures

The above role is Hidden Valley mine site based
