MECHANICAL FITTER

Based in Tabubil and reporting to the Supervisor Shovels, you will be responsible for carrying out mechanical maintenance, servicing, and repairs on mobile equipment, specifically shovels, to maintain optimal reliability and availability.

Your role will involve:

  • Executing effective short and long-term preventive maintenance plans, emphasizing achieving milestones and dedicated timeframes while prioritizing safety, cost, and productivity efficiencies;
  • Troubleshooting and diagnosing machine failures and faults through a logical process;
  • Providing mobile equipment availability through reliable and effective maintenance, servicing, and repair tasks;
  • Conducting defect inspection and elimination processes;
  • Assisting in raising operator awareness regarding the care required to minimize mobile equipment issues; and
  • Proactively recommending and participating in activities to minimize risks and optimize opportunities, particularly focusing on enhancing maintenance efficiencies for mobile equipment.

To be considered, you must possess the following: 

  • A Mechanical trade certificate;
  • At least 5 years of experience in mechanical maintenance in the mining or a construction industry;
  • Experience with Atlas Copco blast hole drills – surface;
  • Experience with O&K/Terex/Bucyrus/Caterpillar large mining shovels and backhoes and the ability to repair to OEM standards;
  • Demonstrate in depth knowledge and application of reading and interpreting hydraulic and mechanical drawings and schematics;
  • Sound knowledge and understanding on the application of testing tools such as pressure gauge, micrometres, verniers;
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Word, MS Excel, SAP or similar computer-based maintenance systems; and
  • An excellent team player with strong attention to detail, high level of communication and a sense of urgency.
