Job Summary

We are currently seeking to recruit a Leading Hand HE Fitter to join our highly dynamic workforce within our Simberi Operations in Simberi Island in New Ireland Province.

The Role

The Leading Hand Fitter reports to the Mobile Maintenance Superintendent Support the Mechanical Supervisor with managing team, to ensure effective and responsive maintenance support is provided to Simberi Operations in order to safely achieve the equipment availability. Act as Supervisor undertaking all responsibilities to that of the Mechanical Supervisor during their absence from site.

This is a FIFO position, with a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire available: Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Tabar Islands Group, Alotau, Buka, Goroka, Hoskins, Madang, Popondetta and Wapenamanda.

Technical Accountabilities Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed. Providing Efficient and effective secondary supervision in support of the Mechanical Supervisor to ensure the department reaches safety and equipment performance targets. Ensuring all statutory requirements of the role are met around mobile equipment including classified plant. Ensuring all tasks are carried out in an environmentally sustainable manner. Contributing productively as a member of the Simberi Maintenance Team. Checking the team completes work to reduce unplanned breakdowns and re-work. Carry out any and all reporting assigned to you. Thorough record keeping. Scheduling Accountabilities Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the team/crew. People Accountabilities Contributing to the development of capability within the team/crew. Contributing to an effective team/crew. Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions. Ensuring outputs and development of the team/crew.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience required:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara Values
  • Heavy vehicle Mechanical or Auto Electrical Trade Certificate
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals

Desirable

  • Frontline Management certificate
  • Additional training or certificates
