Position Overview

Joint Venture Port Services under Steamships Limited Company is in search of a proven, capable and results-driven Heavy Equipment Mechanic to provide leadership, expertise, coaching and direction to the Heavy Equipment Mechanic workshop Team leaders in Lae & Pom (and outer ports as required) and ensure the objectives and agreed personal/professional are supported.

The successful candidate will report to the National Fleet Manager.

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic located in Lae, Morobe Province, Papua New Guinea. The Heavy Equipment Mechanic, your primary responsibilities are as follows;

  • HSSEQ, demonstrate professionalism at all times – in particular as relates to safety.
  • Communicate with National Fleet Manager to ensure that work focuses are in line with company objectives and Management needs.
  • Facilitate the repair, maintenance, and general service accordingly to company’s requirements and maintenance as per manufacturer’s specifications and lead the workshop team to ensure the companies priorities are met.
  • Preplan maintenance schedules in line with machinery availability and operational demand.
  • Forecasting the needs of spare parts and tools and liaising with parts and inventory teams ensuring that parts are equipment required to complete work is provided in a timely manner

Require Experiences

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in servicing Heavy Equipment with a preferred focus on Kalmar & Clerk Omega Stevedoring & Handling equipment.
  • Minimum of 3 years in Senior Supervisory role
  • Welding and metal fabrication basic experience is a plus
  • Machinery operational experience is a plus
  • Experience working with tracked Slewing Cranes.

Qualification and Key Competencies

  • Minimum Heavy Equipment Trade Qualifications – Certificate III in Technology
  • Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of/electronic components in the materials handling and construction industries.
  • High Risk work License – Forklift class and WP Class
  • Refrigerant handling licence
  • Able to use Technology & Computers (Ms word, Excel & Pronto)
