Our Lihir operation in Mining Department is now recruiting for the position of Engineer – Geothermal Operations for FIFO role based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

We are now seeking expression of interest for the position of Engineer – Geothermal Operations for a FIFO position based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO). Reporting to the Senior Engineer – Geothermal, you are required to support the Mine Geothermal Team and other professionals to provide geothermal risk management and geothermal technical support to the Mine Technical and Operations teams.

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Drives and influence proactive safety behaviours within workgroups through visible leadership.
  • Plan work so that it can be conducted safely; and considers environmental conditions, nearby activities, and the people and other resources needed to complete the work.
  • Provides training of mine technical and operational personnel in geothermal hazards identification and critical controls
  • Identify and manage geothermal hazards and associated risks successfully in the open pit by capturing and analysing probe hole drilling, mapping and temperature data, and through regular field inspections.
  • Develop and communicate mine geothermal risk assessment for monthly and weekly mine plans.

Essential criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

  • Tertiary qualified Bachelor of Science (Geology) or Engineering (Geotechnical, Reservoir) is essential and accreditation from the Institute of Engineers PNG Inc. and will be completed as part of work permit process.
  • Class 6 PNG Driver’s License essential.
  • 3 + plus years relevant work experience in a mining environment in a geotechnical/geothermal position is desirable.
  • Exposure in geothermal, geotechnical/geothermal monitoring systems is desirable.
  • Proficient in English with excellent verbal, written communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.

The Requirements

  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
