We are seeking to recruit a Potable Water Technician for our Fixed Plant Maintenance – Electrical Department. Reporting to the Instrument Shift Supervisor, the successful applicant will mainly be responsible for operating and maintaining Water Treatment Plants to within regulatory environmental discharge criteria.

Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Conduct daily inspections on plant and equipment and report any defects.
  • Conduct basic pump and valve maintenance as per findings of morning inspections and as per operator PM schedules.
  • Daily housekeeping of the WTP’s and all associated equipment.
  • Conduct testing of plant key indicators in the morning and at regular intervals throughout the day if the plant performance is not satisfactory.
  • Continuously monitor plant flow balance tank, levels and adjust throughput / flow rate accordingly.
  • Continuously monitor collector tanks for signs of blanket lifts during the period of high flow rate and settling rate through plant.
  • Bagging Waste Activated Sludge from digester daily when biomass levels exceed optimum levels.
  • Filling plant Chlorine holding dosing tanks from bulk containers at WTP’s.
  • Conducting Chlorine testing at WTP’s and adjust dosing pumps accordingly.
  • Conduct schedule maintenance and repairs on plant equipment in conjunction with Electricians and Plumbers as required.
  • Mobilize to different plants for problem solving when identified on PI system when any of the WTP holding tanks level start to drop.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience required:

  • Be a certified Water Treatment Technician or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years or more experience in a similar role, preferably within the Mining industry or remote sites.
  • Have broad experience in the operation and maintenance of Water Treatment Plants.
  • Basic working knowledge of computerized maintenance systems.
  • Hold a valid and current PNG Class 3 or 6 Driver’s License.
  • Effective time management and problem solving skills.
  • Be self-motivated and able to effectively participate as part of a team.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Demonstrate matured approach and strong self-discipline.
  • Good oral and written communications skills in English and Tok Pisin.

The above role is Hidden Valley mine site based
