About the Role
An exciting opportunity has arisen to be part of Santos’ Maintenance Control Systems based at Port Moresby. This role is to design, develop, and implement control systems that optimize operational efficiency, ensure safety, and comply with industry standards and best practices. Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, the Control Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in defining control system requirements and developing strategies to optimize processes and achieve production goals. By leveraging their expertise, they will contribute to the seamless integration of control systems that enhance operational efficiency and safety within the organization.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Design, develop, and implement control systems that optimize operational efficiency, ensure safety, and comply with industry standards and best practices
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to define control system requirements and develop strategies to optimize processes and meet production goals.
  • Conduct control system configuration, programming, and testing to ensure proper functionality and performance.
  • Integrate control systems with operational technology (OT), including Windows servers, network equipment (e.g., firewalls, switches, and routers), and other relevant infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to control systems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Perform regular maintenance and upgrades of control systems, including hardware and software components.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including system specifications, design documents, and user manuals.
  • Stay updated with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and applicable oil and gas standards within Australia.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure effective communication, coordination, and alignment of control system projects.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior control system engineers and other team members.

About You
We are seeking for candidates with the following essential experience:

  • Demonstrated in control system engineering within the oil and gas industry.
  • Familiarity with applicable oil and gas standards and regulations in Australia.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) ladder logic, Function Block Diagram (FBD), or Structured Text (ST).
  • Experience with HMI (Human-Machine Interface) systems, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, DCS (Distributed Control System) and PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) platforms.
  • Proficiency in designing, programming, and troubleshooting control systems using industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, Ethernet/IP, DeviceNet, and Foundation Fieldbus
  • Strong understanding of Windows servers, including configuration and administration.
  • Proficiency in networking concepts, including firewalls, switches, routers, and network protocols.
  • Knowledge of operational technology (OT) integration, including the integration of control systems with Windows servers and network infrastructure.

Ideally, you have relevant educational qualification in Bachelors in Control Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, or a related field. Registered Professional Engineer is highly desirable.
