We are now seeking expression of interest for the position of Surveyor for a FIFO position based at our Lihir Gold Operation (LGO).

Reporting to the Senior Surveyor Specialist, you will be required in carrying out all site surveying and GIS data manipulation in the mine open cut pit and the site plant engineering/construction.

The role will have responsibility to:

  • Competently use all latest surveying equipment to survey accurately the information and required for mining, site survey, GIS and plant engineering whilst maintaining a personnel field book and field checks to validate as a professional surveyor
  • Carrying out 3rd order precision levelling when required
  • Road construction engineering surveys – Field to Finish approach pit and public roads
  • Drone survey operations with Fixed-wing & Multi-rotor drones.
  • Competent with Ground Penetration Radar systems
  • Ensures End of month surveys and reporting are consistently delivered.
  • Plans, prepares for and conducts survey jobs in accordance with established procedures and in compliance with NML HSE requirements and proactive in update where SOP where required.
  • Maintains surveying and ancillary equipment, always ensuring fit for purpose and in good state of repair.
  • Manages field logbooks and any relevant documentation associated with surveys.
  • Ensures survey vehicle is maintained in accordance with OEM recommendations.
  • Maintains survey control stations and ground control points.
  • Takes responsibility for survey pick-ups and set outs.
  • Supervises and coaches graduates and survey technicians, ensuring quality of work and their safety.

Essential criteria

Ideally, our preferred applicant will have;

  • Tertiary bachelor’s degree in Surveying/Hydrographic qualification essential or Spatial Science in a recognised institution.
  • 3 – 5 years relevant work experience essential in large-scale surface mining & ore processing environments
  • 1-2 years hydrographic surveying experience is essential
  • ASPNG, IEPNG or a Spatial Science Membership.
  • PNG Driver’s Licence – Class 6 essential.
  • PNG registered MNE Surveyor or the ability to register
  • RePL license is essential but not required.
  • Demonstrated bathymetric surveying skills with ROV experience a bonus.
  • Versatile Construction surveying skills.
  • Exposure to current latest surveying technologies, process & systems.
  • Demonstrated advance spatial analytical skills with cloud computing systems exposure.
  • Recognised surveying competencies from remote operating platform like quadcopters, Fixed wing, and VTOL drones.
  • Remote Operations of ROV for bathymetry surveys using MBES systems is a bonus.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Office suite.
  • Sound planning, strong analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure and autonomously.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong active listening & interpersonal skills for rapport building, conflict resolution & training.

The Requirements

  • Must be available for FIFO to Lihir
  • Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
  • Must have proof of a completed Police Clearance within the last six months.
